GO E-A-G-L-E-S!!!

Just to introduce you to our newest sport :)

Both girls are participating in the IMPACT cheering program at our church. They both begged to do it this Fall so we are giving it a shot. So far they have gone to a few practices and LOVE it! Sarah now does cartwheels and attempts hand stands every chance she gets. It cracks me up, especially watching Ansley do her "stunts" :)

Here is a video of the IMPACT program. As you can imagine Ansley watches it constantly!!

Ending the season on a high note

We just wrapped up a busy swim team season and Sarah ended the year with the swimmer of the week award. She was SO excited because she had been hoping to get this award for two years and finally won it on the very last week. This year Sarah did amazing and met every challenge head on. Both the breast stroke and butterfly were added to her events this year and she did very well in both considering she didn't even know the strokes before the season started. It's been a very busy month but we've enjoyed every minute of it and are looking forward to doing it all over again with both girls next year.

73 years and going strong

Happy 73rd Anniversary

Nana and Boss

June 20, 1938

Yesterday Nana and Boss celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary and there was a sweet article in the LaGrange Daily News about it. They may both be in their 90's but their true love for each other and sense of humor are still very much intact.

They’ve been married more than 70 years, but the only thing Adeline and Claude Foster remember even remotely arguing about is his love for playing golf.

“I really can’t think of anything other than that he was a golf nut,” Adeline Foster, 94, said Monday as they celebrated their 73rd anniversary at their home in Vernon Woods Retirement Community. “He’s just a good man. I love his personality. He’s still such a good man.”

When they married on June 20, 1938, they were the first couple to be married at St. Peter’s Catholic Church when it was on Church Street. They married on a Monday because it was the only day that worked in the traveling priest’s schedule to spend Sunday night in LaGrange, said their daughter, Cecilia Edwards.

“She wore a light blue dress that her sister had made,” Edwards said, “and, of course, he wore a suit.”

Claude Foster, 97, was 24 when he married his bride, who was 21. The two celebrated their honeymoon in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Adeline Foster said her husband didn’t ask her to marry him. He told her.

“All he said was, ‘We’re gonna get married,’” she recalled. “Actually, that’s all he ever talked about – getting married.”

“Yep,” he said. “She hooked me.”

“I didn’t hook him,” she said, smiling. “He hooked me.”

Adeline Foster was born in LaGrange, but she and her family soon moved back to their native Italy before returning to LaGrange when she was about 10.

Claude Foster was born and raised in LaGrange on Vernon Street.

The couple started dating while she was still in high school, meeting each other for ballroom dancing – one of their favorite pastimes – at Highland Country Club.

“We both loved to dance,” he said.

“We still love to dance,” she finished.

The Fosters have three children – Jimbo Foster, Frankie Foster and Cecilia Edwards, and they also enjoy their eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Claude Foster owned and operated Foster Plumbing, Heating & Air for years, first with his father. Now, Jimbo Foster and his son, Sidney, are carrying on the tradition.

“My greatest job was putting in the fountain on Lafayette Square,” Claude Foster said. “It took me a solid week just to regulate it so it wouldn’t overflow.”

Claude Foster is known as “Eachie” Foster to longtime LaGrange residents. He said he became stuck with the name “Eachie” at Boy Scout camp long ago.

“Some of the older boys wanted to smoke, and there was a certain tent you could go in to smoke, but you had to have a password,” he said. “For some reason, I suggested ‘Eachie.’ They thought it was so funny that they started calling me that instead.”

The Fosters said they’re proud of the adults their children have become.

“I think we were good parents to them,” Adeline Foster said. “I think we were successful raising them because we talked to them in a logical way about behavior and such, and we never held them back and said, ‘You can’t do this or that.’ And they never did disappoint us.”

Edwards said growing up, her parents “always made family gatherings a lot of fun.”

“Every single Sunday we had wonderful spaghetti dinners,” she said. “She cooked it every Sunday for years, and we always had people over.”

She said she thinks her parents’ happy marriage stems from both their positive outlooks and their desire to be active.

“They loved Georgia football games,” she said. “They loved going to Panama City and loved to travel. They’ve always been busy.”

She also said they’ve seemed to have grown “closer and closer through the years.”

The Fosters said the secret to a happy marriage is lots of dancing, and simply “to love each other,” Adeline Foster said.

“I just love her,” Claude Foster said, just before he and his bride gently walked hand-in-hand down the hall of Vernon Woods. “That’s all there is in this world. I’ve always loved her.”

Artist in Training

My very proud little Artist
Tonight was the school Art Show. Everytime I walk into that school I am A*M*A*Z*E*D by the work the Art Teacher does with them. I have been in many schools over the years and never have I seen work like this produced by ALL the children. While I was there I tracked down the school Art Teacher and thanked her in person. I found out she is a professional artist who knows how to break things down into simple steps the children can understand. It was truly amazing to see all the beautiful work tonight. I was hoping to get some really good pictures from each grade but the girls kept running amuck so I had to snap pictures on the fly while trying to keep up with them. Enjoy the photos....the hydrangea paintings by the 3rd grade are TO DIE FOR!!

Farewell Discovery

Space Shuttle Discovery launching from Cape Canaveral, FL on it's last and final mission before being retired and placed in the Smithsonian.

February 24th, 2011

I know you all are probably laughing right now because I dedicated a blog to this but you know I love our Space Program and you know you all LOVE it when I drag you outside to watch one!! :) Though I never aspired to be an astronaut I have always been fascinated by the launches and am sad that the Shuttle Program is being discontinued. Discovery will be placed in the Smithsonian and the rest of the fleet will be sold off to the highest bidding countries (BOOOOOOOOOOO!) Sadly there are only two launches left before the program ends in June.

Treasuring the moment

Tonight Sarah has her first Father-Daughter Dance with her Daisy Scout Troop. Being the sap that I am, I was fighting tears HARD as we put on the fancy dress, sparkly shoes and yes (sigh) the light pink lip gloss. Wasn't she just a bald headed baby last year? Such a special night for her and Adam. :)

A picture is worth 1,000 words

ICE STORM 2011: This sums it up PERFECTLY!

Unfortunately all our "fun" snow quickly turned to a solid sheet of ice several inches thick so we've all had a bit of cabin fever. Walking to the neighbors is even a challenge because all the streets and sidewalks are like one big ice rink. We're on our 4th day of being stuck inside so hopefully the weather reports are correct and we start thawing out tomorrow. Until then. we'll try to all stay sane and play Pollyanna Whittier's Glad game.
I am glad that the power did not go off!

More Snow Pics

Well, we got the snow we were all hoping for. We ended up with 5-6 inches here at our house. It was coming down like a blizzard last night before we went to bed and sometime this morning it began to turn to freezing rain. It is starting to sleet right now so the end result is going to be nasty but at least we were able to get out and play in the snow for a little while this morning. I forgot just how beautiful a good snowfall is. Everything is so peaceful and the only sounds you are hearing are the giggles from the neighborhood children sledding. So thankful for this beautiful snow and even more thankful for a wonderful neighborhood full of children!

Ready to make some snow cream!
